That itch you can’t scratch….

Filed under: clothes, days off, shopping — by heatherdc @ 1:33 am

It’s been a while since I’ve gone shopping. Or even had time to think about shopping. Or had the opportunity to actually do some real shopping.

As soon as I start to get actual money saved up, it seems as though I just want to spend it. Ehhhh.

On that note, does anybody else feel like all they do on their days off is spend money?? Hmmm, not good.

I’m getting all kinds of restless with my clothes, and there is literally NO decent shopping to speak of within a 100 mile radius. I’m not kidding. We have two department stores in our mall (Sears does not count. No no no)….Dillards and JC Pennys. Not that these aren’t usually decent stores, but umm….not here. Here it’s like the C-list stuff that the other stores didn’t sell/want/need. At least that’s my take on it. Probably not too far off.

The closest “real” shopping is in a city about 3 hours away. And uhhh, with two SUVs around here, nobody is lookin to pay for the gas to drive three hours, just to spend money, and then drive back. Well….I’m not….not with the budget I’ll be on next year (daaaaangit).

Anyway. My madre and I had to go out to the mall today, and I wanted to stop at a cheap jewelry store to see if I could find anything. I just had that ‘itch’, I wanted something new, something fun, something I probably don’t need but want to be excited about anyway. Even if it costs $5, I dooon’t care. But guess what, I didn’t see anything. Not. one. thing. Gah.

So then we went to Target…..always a sure-thing that I’ll find something there! And guess what? The only things I bought…? A card, gum, and Hershey’s dark chocolate kisses (not to be overlooked, they are deeeelicious). Ehhhhh.

Obviously, something had to be done. And that something involved the internet, searching, and page browsing. Oooh yes, who could forget about ONLINE shopping?! All the great stores, brands, categories, sales, etc that you need. So wonderful.

Thanks to the loveliness that is Forever21.com, I have 9 purchases coming to me in 5-10 business days, for less than $70. (can you handle all those numbers? Yesssss). And that includes shipping. Goooo me! I gotta admit, I was pretty satisfied with myself. And pretty damn excited to finally have some new items to look forward to.

A few of which included these lovely things…..

(Jen! I totally thought of you when I saw this scarf! :) )

Aaand a few other things. But I didnt’ feel like saving all the pictures and uploading them. But I’m exciteddd for some new stuff!

(afterthought:: I wonder how many people will find this post during a Google-search for vagasil? Uhhh, sorry if I have mislead you.)

I don’t even have clubs…

Filed under: days off, family, home — by heatherdc @ 1:42 am

Golf clubs. I don’t have them. Why would I use them? Well, I wouldn’t. So instead, I’ll borrow them. Just for today.

My Dad loves to golf-he’s pretty good at it actually, winning a few tournaments here and there. On one of his days “off” you can always find him at the golf course, and if there’s any major tournament going on (Tiger is a cutie, that’s all I know about “major tournaments”) then he’s definitely watching it on TV.

My older brother and younger sister (yup, I’m in the middle) have both started to aquire some….hmm…skills? They go to school together and have hit the course up a few times.

Where does this leave me? It leaves me as the last child, of us three, who hasn’t picked up the sport. I’m the only one who has Never walked an entire golf course. Although, I do feel like I should acknowledge that I have traveled an entire golf course…..in the cart. My sis and I used to go with my dad on Sunday afternoons, just so we could “drive” the cart. Before you have a driver’s license, this was the next best thing!! I got such a kick out of driving those small white things all around. With one universal key that started all of them, it’s a wonder I didn’t just run off with one to have for my own. Nothing was stopping me….if you think about it…..except morals, maybe? Yes, that must’ve been it. Geeze, such a good kid.

Anywayyyy. My Dad and I both have the day off tomorrow…sooo…I have finally agreed to a game. There’s a Par 3 course here, and thats as far as we’re goin’ right now. Don’t want to get too crazy over here. I’m assuming my score will be around..oohh, you know…the 90s….maybe 100s? Yah, that sounds about right.

I’ll keep ya posted on that….

Ehhhhh

The homework continues…

Filed under: days off, homework — by heatherdc @ 1:20 am

At the beginning of last month (whooa, how long ago does that feel?! gah) I was handing in my last papers, assignments and tests. I was finishing college, and savoring the sweet sweet feeling of being done.

…….or so I thought…..

Turns out, the homework? It doesn’t stop. Oh, no. Instead, it has taken over my last two days off. Turns out, I’m not even close to being done. Not just yet.

For my internship next year we have ’summer assignments’.  I knew this.  What I didn’t know? Well, first off I didn’t know one of them is due tomorrow. Or at least I didn’t know this until about three days ago. Surprise! We got a huge packet in the mail a few weeks ago, and I looked over the “Due dates” at least three times. I was making sure that I was seeing things right….we had one assignment due June 9th, and no more due until July 1st. Wrong. Apparently I was mistaking a “June 20th” for a “July 20th”. Or maybe my eyes were only seeing what they wanted to see. It’s a mystery.

Regardless, there is a three-page assignment due tomorrow. Good thing I discovered this on Tuesday, because it required going to the grocery store and recording & comparing prices, searching for “alternatives” to certain things, and a little bit of taste-testing (not the good kind. the kind where you decide which salt substitute tastes even a liiiittle bit like salt. Ehhhh.).  Not exactly the kind of thing you can get done over-night.

So my mom and I spent about half an hour in the grocery store yesterday, doing ‘research’. Then I spent a little time last night, and the majority of today (in spurts, because my attention span for homework post-graduation is apparently umm….non-existent?) working on this assignment.

Gah.

It’s my own fault. I never expected these to be ‘easy’ assignments, that would defeat the purpose of learning from them so that certain situations next year don’t send us into a full panic attack. Some of them are lengthy, and some of them will take me all of about five minutes.  I just didn’t think about how much i wouldn’t want to be doing homework during the summer. But alas, the homework continues…..
