Because Dad needs a new car magnet

Filed under: parents,PennState,Road trip! — by heatherdc @ 9:31 pm

Yup, there’s another road trip on the agenda! I realized this is the last “free” weekend for at least a month, and I realized it’s been WAY too long since I’ve been back to Penn State. This happened to be a great combination.

Destination: Happy Valley!

The weather could not be more cooperative, which means I have one thing planned – drinks at the Cafe. Immediately upon arrival, and after we battle the line that will no doubt have accumulated by 6 p.m.. Oh, also after I stop by the Lion Shrine and give it a little loooove. Ya know, priorities.

I lied, there’s one more thing planned. A visit to the famous Crush, for a little styyyylin’! Yes I’ve lived in MD for 8 months. Yes I still get my hair cut in State College. Because I Love it. And because, clearly, I don’t get my hair cut that often.

After I informed my Mom of our weekend plans, she texted me this;

“Will you get Dad a new PSU magnet for his car? his cracked thanks”.

Ha, can’t go without those car magnets!! I’m not allowed to own them (personal-rule) because I always forget to take it off before a car wash. That stupid water hose knocks them off with all it’s water power, and then weeks later I notice that I’m magnet-less and that I wasted yet another $5. Gah.

But the parents loooove ’em.

In other news, it turns out Michael Scott is quite the businessman! Thursday night TV and packing seems to have become my routine lately. Back to it!

It’s time to strap on my running shoes for another “Short Run“. Round 2, one year later. SO EXCITED.

It’s time to peace out. See ya on Mondayyy!!

In honor of this being my 222-nd post, I’m gonna roll with it. Things in twos. Yessss.

This weekend I’ll be taking my second road trip to see my roomie/bfffff Em. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t gone to see her more since I’ve been in MD, but then I remember that she also came here, twice. And we all met up in State College, once. Oh, damnit. That doesn’t fit the theme, but it still happened. So, um, roadtrip. I’m excited!!!

Today, two people Google-searched the words “Classy Outfits”, and it led them to my blog. Hiii, I’m so flattered! I hope you found something they were looking for. I do try to keep things classyyy around here, you know.

Last night I finally registered for my second half-marathon in Pittsburgh (fourth overall). It’s the same one I ran in last March, and I decided against stepping it up to the 30K. No thanksss. While it would be the perfect interim race between a half and a full, and I’ll probably wish I had just sucked it up and done it….I just want my 13.1. I want to see if I can beat my time from last year. I also saved $5 by registering for one race over the other, and by registering by 12/31. If that’s not budget friendly, I don’t know what is. That’s gonna buy me my second drink tonight.

On Wednesday I went on a cleaning spree. I thoroughly cleaned the bathroom, bleach, windex, scrubbing, drying, re-arranging (toiletries), etc. This has only happened twice since we moved in. Hmm……I probably need to work on that. Granted, it’s a joint effort. We switch off.  So…..I guess that’s okay.

After our usual two-round-of-drinks at some random restaurant/bar + dinner tonight, the roomie and I are renting “The Dark Knight” (along with everybody else, I know). Guess how many times I’ve seen it??? If you didn’t say 2, where the heck have you been. I’m still excited though, Heath Ledger gives me goosebumps. I’m usually not so into the violent stuff, but this movie defies everything. Amazing.

Alright. I’m done. That’s enough twos .  Now I have to start preparing for 333. I’ve got lots of writing to do.

First things first

I’m goin’ straight over to that Lion. We have a little history together…..

I absolutely can.NOT. wait to be back in that place. Just for a few days. Just a little dose of Penn State.

That’s all I’ve got today. It’s consuming my mind.

Sooo….BYE! Have fabulous weekends and dress up as something crazy for me, since I won’t. I prefer to be harassed by the drunkies all night for opting for an orange t-shirt and smoky eyes (hmm, even that sounds like a big effort. yah. we’ll see.).

Happy halloweeeeen!

Feeling all growed up

Left work today all decked out in my “business casual”, and went to Target. Well, I would’ve gone home but I’d only have about ten minutes to be there and then I’d have to hit the road again. And, really, when do I not go to Target? Yah.

Anyway. It was all en route to pick up the boyfriend from the airport. Yessss! Airport reunions are fun. Plus it means I get to go into “Hudson News” and read People, Cosmo, Fitness, etc.

So Jack is here (yessss!!), with his suits all packed for this weekend (yum). He’s been helping me pick out which dress to wear to the Rehearsal/dinner, and I’m helping him pick out which tie to wear to go with my dress for Saturday. We’re going to a wedding together. Whoa.

I get to head out of work a little early so we can actually make it to the Rehearsal in Philly. Which is greeeeat, because 1) obviously, I should be at the rehearsal, and 2) it means I miss all that crazy-weekend/baltimore/this area is WAY too crowded-traffic. I’m just excited I get to wear a dress Friday night and Saturday night. And get all glammed up. And go to a wedding with the *best* date. And be in one of my best friend’s weddings!

Whew. I’m just feeling all grown up over here.

Hope you are all having weekends equally as fabulous! Even if that means enjoying some Ben & Jerry’s fro-yo and nice long movie night.

Road trip Rambling

I’m gettin out for the weekend. And by out, I mean….Road triiiiip.

It’s only been a month since I got here, but for some reason I have that itch. I need to take a break, leave, and detoxify myself of all internship-ness. This is weekend #2 with Emily (yesss!!). And it’s also the first time I’ve seen Jack since he had to come down here, move too many boxes, and build IKEA furniture with me. I don’t think he’ll ever forgive the Swedes that wrote the directions (we have some suggestions….), but hopefully he’s forgiven me by now. ‘Cause I am sooooo ready to see him.

Oh, whats this about it being “National Stay at Home week”??  Really ABC?? You don’t have to beg. Somebody will ‘stay home’ watch two hours of Grey’s…, after The Office. Jim & Pam!!!! O-m-g. Finallyyyyyy!

I barely packed last night. I have yet to figure out what’s wrong with me in that department, but it’ll get done. I did do laundry. And fold it. Aaaand get music from the roomie’s iTunes so I have some new stuff to jam out to today. I have priorities.

If I bring a sweat-towel to the gym, I feel like I sweat more. Anybody? It’s always about 80º in there, meaning I will sweat profusely anyway. But, gah. It is better than 90% humidity and morning “dew” though. I don’t do the dew. Or humidity.

Anyway. The 5-mile morning run will hopefully appease my legs for having to drive 5 hours to PA. I never thought I’d be so excited to see that state. This one is pretty-n-allll, but we’re just not on that “level” yet.

Sooo, I’m off. Happy weekendinggg internets!

When an old car needs some lube

Filed under: driving, learning,Road trip! — by heatherdc @ 10:02 am

When I go home, my car stays here. It stays in the driveway of Em’s house, patiently sitting and waiting. This works out great, as in I don’t pay for parking at the airport and I know it’s in a safe place. The longest I’ve ever left it all alone is about a month. This summer, it was about three. And I think he’s gettin’ me back for that….

I went up the hill where it’s been parked, since May, and started him up. Battery worked, which was a relief. Gear shift wasn’t rusty, good to know. Put it in reverse, and…..uhh…stuck. Not moving. Even though we’re on an incline and should be rolling down. Me being the mechanic that I am, have no idea what this means. So I just give it some gas and basically force my car to go backwards. Once I get on the driveway I realize it sounds like something is dragging. And that “something” was the back right wheel. Ehhhhh. This can’t be good.

After AAA and a consult from a small independent auto shop, I know this: Only one wheel isn’t moving, so it’s probably not the axle, and you shouldn’t leave your emergency break on for 3 months. Especially when your car is gettin’ a little old. It does Not appreciate it. But pay it some attention, lube it up, maybe wash it a little bit…and you’re good to go. Yessss.

Luckily I didn’t wait til today to move the car and see whats up, since the Mom will be flying into MD today and I am kind of supposed to be there to get her. But he’s all fixed up! And ready for another road trip.

Race time! Ups & Downs

Tomorrow afternoon we’re headin’ to Utah! I went on one last leisure run this morning; slow pace, not too far, beeeautiful morning, and fun new songs on my playlist. Perfect.

As I was trekkin’ along, my mind was workin’ away. I was contemplating all the ups and downs of the race…

UP: Throughout the course, through the hills and up the roads, we’ll actually go down about 2,000 ft.
DOWN: The race starts at 6 a.m. That means I have to be up by about 4:30 (shuttle at 5). Ehhhh.

UP: I get four days off, Friday-Monday!! The first weekend I’ve been off since the middle of June. Gah.
DOWN: As beautiful as the state of Utah is, its also a little anti-um-special beverages. After the race we are invited to join a “Country Bear Festival”, with food and live music and probably square-dancing or something of the sort. And they’ll be selling homemade rootbeer. Hmmm. The first time I read that, I read a little too fast and got all kinds of excited. Yum! Fresh brewed beer in Utah! Uhh, no.

UP: We came up with a little remedy. Exit small-town Utah and go to the nearest city for the night. It’ll be a lovely night of dinner & drinks with the parentals. And I’m packing like three pairs of heels, because you just never know. Plus, I haven’t worn heels in like a month. My feet are crying.
DOWN: This does mean that after running 13 miles, I’ll be spending about 2 1/2 hrs in a car. Although the thought of stretching out with a pillow and blanket in the backseat sounds greeeat, I just hope my muscles don’t tighten up. That would noot be good.

UP: The race is in two days!!!!
UP: I’ll be running along a beautiful old highway, in the scenic desert, with the early morning sun shining on me. Ah, perfect.
UP: Roadtriiiip! It’s a lot of driving, but I looove roadtrips. And I haven’t traveled since May. whoa.
UP: One week from today it’s my birthday!! I know that doesn’t go with the ‘theme’ of the list, but it’s still an Up. Fun!
UP: I think I’m done with this list now.
